The first weekend in September saw a troupe of Thamesreachers travel north to Flintheath to attend the Ancient Oak Medieval Fayre. The festival is in its second year and is attended by a number of re-enactment groups putting on demonstrations for the public and traders selling their wares.
Within the SCA encampment, there were fencing and heavy combat tourneys and the opportunity for some archery practice as well. There were plenty of opportunities to talk to the public and show what we get up to with examples of calligraphy, illumination, embroidery, costuming and armouring on display as well as general information about the SCA itself. As usual for an Insulae Draconis event, we dined well throughout the weekend!
